Warning – Moreland Jones Insurance Services
Moreland traded from 146 Tankerton Road, Whitstable, Kent, CT5 2AW.
The FSA is aware that some customers may have paid premiums to Moreland to arrange insurance cover, but the money may not have been paid over to the intended insurer.
If this is the case it is very likely the insurer will not be on risk for the policy in question. Any customer in this position will not have valid insurance cover in place.
If you took out a motor insurance policy through Moreland then, without valid third party insurance, you may be committing an offence if you use a vehicle on the public highway under the provisions of the Road Traffic Act 1988.
Who does this affect?
Potentially any customers who took out insurance through Moreland.
What should affected customers do next?
If you are a customer and are not sure if you have valid insurance cover, you should contact the insurance company with whom you believe your policy is held (not the broker, Moreland). If you discover from the insurer that you don't have valid insurance cover you should take immediate steps to arrange some.
You should then contact the liquidator of Moreland (details under further information below).
You should also contact the Customer Services Team of the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS), which may be able to consider claims for compensation in relation to premiums paid to this firm.
The FSCS is the UK's statutory fund of last resort for customers of authorised financial services firms. This means that the FSCS can pay compensation if a firm is unable, or likely to be unable, to pay claims against it.
You can contact the FSCS Customer Services Team as follows:
Telephone: 0207 892 7300, or
Write to: The Financial Services Compensation Scheme, Customer Services Team, 7th Floor, Lloyds Chambers, 1 Portsoken Street, London, E1 8BN, or
