Further information
We strongly advise you not to deal with unauthorised firms. If you give your money to an unauthorised firm, you will not be eligible for the UK complaint or compensation schemes should anything go wrong.
If anyone calls you out of the blue offering to buy or sell shares, you should take a note of the name of the firm, the name of the company whose shares they are promoting and put the phone down. You should then check our Register of authorised firms to see if they are authorised by us. If they are not, we would like to hear about them.
We have a list of unauthorised overseas firms operating in the UK which we update regularly. You should also be aware that some callers use the names of firms or individuals that appear on our Register to make them appear legitimate. It's unusual for firms to call you out of the blue so if you are in doubt, ask for the caller's contact details and call the firm back using the contact details on our Register to verify their identity.
