Money saving tips

  • Our Money saving tips cover maximising your income, budgeting and taking stock, debt and how to reduce some of those essential costs.
  • Order or download our printed Making your budget work for you guide – see Publications

Check out your options

Use our interactive tools:

  • Budget calculator – helps you find out whether you have enough money coming in to cover your spending.
  • Mortgage calculator – check what your repayments might be if interest rates change.
  • Debt test – helps you find out whether you are likely to have problems with your borrowing over the next year or so.
  • Compare products – compare the features and costs of savings accounts, mortgages and pensions. You can shop around for other items using other comparison websites, but remember many of them are run by businesses which may promote certain products because they have a commercial arrangement with the company that provides them.
  • Work out if you're entitled to benefits. More than £2billion of benefits go unclaimed every year. If you have a child, you can use our Parenting calculators to help you work out how much you may be able to claim.

The government's Directgov and Citizens Advice Bureau's Adviceguide websites have more information about benefits – see Related information on the right.
